The ‘Tendy’ Is The Tiny Hair Upgrade All The Celebs Are Doing

There’s no denying that the styles trending in the 2000s are back and the “tendy” is the latest ’00s-inspired hair trend to take off. Side parts may have been discounted as “cheugy” a few seasons back, but now they’re all over the red carpets and runways, with everyone from Dua Lipa and Kim Kardashian bringing the style back.

Likewise, braided ponytails, baby braids, and prom updos have all made a return, but it’s this last one that’s had a modern upgrade for the latest hair revival.

“I love this look, as it is simplistic, yet elegant,” says celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Korab. “It is perfect or an evening out, or a daytime look. This look is trending, as it is simple and an easy way to style your hair, giving it an effortless look.”

What is the tendy hair trend?

The tendy is the little sister to ’00s hair tendrils. Instead of a pair of hair strips tumbling down for some face-framing, we’ve seen a whole bunch of celebs, including Lori Harvey, Gigi Hadid, and Hailey Bieber, switch things up and opt for a lone, statement strand on one side of their parting.

Why do the tendy hair trend?

If you want a low-effort way of adding extra interest and structure to hair, tendrils are great way to incorporate some more movement, and depending on how they’re styled, they can add a little romance or edge to hairstyles. With the asymmetrical strand, the tendy keeps things fresh, young, and a little more unexpected. Plus it looks a whole lot more mysterious to us.

Does the tendy hair trend work on all hair types?

The beauty of the tendy is that it works with all hair lengths and types. It can be worn straight, wavy, or curly; for coily or Afro hair types, it can be gelled into place like a statement, solo edge.

How to recreate the look

Luckily, this style is easy to achieve at home. “To create this look, pull your hair up in the desired style, whether it be a slicked bun, or twist, then section out the single tendril on the side of the part you desire,” says Korab. “In my opinion, the best way to section the tendril is to take a small piece of hair off the parting you have. Making sure the tendril falls in the desired spot to achieve your final look.”

Once you have your hair sectioned off, make sure to seal in the look with product. “I recommend using a smoothing serum to define the shape of the tendril,” she says. “I love Pureology Shine Bright Taming Serum to sculpt. You can also add a bend using the beach waver for the perfect loose wave.”
