Perhaps we might be waiting a little longer to witness Meghan Markle’s return to the world of acting. Earlier this week, Suits star Patrick J. Adams posted a series of cryptic Instagram images relating to his time on the hit television show, in which he played a lead character whose plot involved a romantic liaison with Meghan Markle’s character, Rachel Zane.
The photos featured many cast members from the series, but most prominently they appeared to spotlight the Duchess of Sussex. This prompted a frenzy of online speculation that the Duchess of Sussex may be about to reboot her acting career. The Duchess, then known by her birth name Meghan Markle, appeared as a main character on the programme between 2011 and 2018.
On his Instagram Story, Adams addressed the impromptu removal of the photos. He stated that “the last couple of days, I foolishly and thoughtlessly let a trip down Suits memory lane distract me from the very real and ongoing fight everyone in @sagaftra continues to wage in its effort to win our membership realistic 21st-century compensation and protections.” He continued: “It was an embarrassing oversight for which I’m incredibly sorry. So grateful to those who gently and swiftly course corrected me here and I look forward to continuing the fight in the days and the weeks ahead.”
Adams was referring to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes in the United States. The strikes began in July and have disrupted film and television production throughout Hollywood. According to the guild’s website, this has also meant that major acting talent cannot participate in promotion for past and upcoming work.
Before taking them down, Adams’s posts showed the Duchess, alongside co-stars Gabriel Macht and Sarah Rafferty. Many of the photos showed Markle at her most candid, including a stunning black and white side profile. The posts had mysterious captions such as ‘I miss my friends’. This prompted media speculation that the series would make a return, potentially with the Duchess of Sussex.
