Through all of this, Turner has taken the high road. She hasn’t leaked anything to the press through sources, and her perspective on the divorce has not been heard at all besides one brief statement to the media posted on Wednesday morning.
Okay, got it. It doesn’t take Einstein to figure out what they are trying to say here. So now, Turner is not only an absent mother but also a partier. Never mind the fact that Turner just three years ago said in an interview that she was a homebody, describing her husband as the one who liked going out.
The implication that Turner is somehow doing something wrong by having a life that occasionally takes her away from her children really resonated with many women, who said they understood what it felt like to be judged.
“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” reads a statement posted to both Jonas and Turner’s Instagram accounts. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
“Multiple sources who have direct contact with Joe tell TMZ … Joe had access to a ring cam that he said captured Sophie saying and/or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over,” the report reads. Oh, come on! Can this be any more transparent?
“So I struggle to lock him down and have him just spend time with me,” she told Conan O’Brien. “It’s like prison for him, but it’s great for me.”
So, a message to these “sources.” You can stop trying to convince us all that Turner is this or that type of person. Women and mothers can be messy and complicated people, and no one deserves to have their dirty laundry aired in public.
Given all the tabloid drama against her, I wouldn’t have been surprised to learn that women and the internet were collectively turning on Turner, calling her a bad mom, a party girl, or worse. Instead, a strange and beautiful thing has been happening. People, especially women, have seen through the attacks and rallied around Turner in droves in her comments on Instagram and elsewhere online.
On Wednesday, September 6, the Daily Mail gleefully posted photos of Turner celebrating with coworkers at the wrap party for Joan, describing the star as “downing shots” during a “WILD night.” That same day, TMZ followed up with another ominous report from another Jonas-affiliated source implying Turner did something shady.
