It’s like Anne Hathaway heard that Gen-Z was done with skinny jeans and has been searching for the widest, baggiest pairs she could find ever since.
On October 6, the 40-year-old actor continued to make the case for herself as one of the most fashionable millennials in Hollywood when she stepped out in a pair of grey ultra-wide-leg jeans, a simple white t-shirt, and a classic leather jacket. And while red may be the hottest color of the season, silver has taken over the footwear game at least partially thanks to Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour. Clearly keeping this in mind, Hathaway completed her look with a pair of silver pointed-toed boots, though they are largely covered by her baggy pants.
Of course, TikTok style influencers did not invent baggy jeans and wide-leg pants—which have had their moments in the ‘80s, ’90s, and early ’00s—nor is Hathaway the only 40+ A-lister embracing their resurgence. This past week alone, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo wore a pair of cuffed wide-leg jeans during a daytime outing in Beverly Hills while Jennifer Lopez modeled two takes on the trend: first stepping out in a high-waisted pair of beige cargo pants a few days before rocking an oversized denim jumpsuit.
But if you think I’m reaching by describing Anne Hathaway’s wardrobe as Gen-Z-coded, just ask the Devil Wears Prada star for yourself. “I know this sounds like I’m super-pandering, but I’m really switched on by Gen-Z,” Hathaway told Vogue in August. “It’s a fun generation when it comes to fashion. They really hit it just right where they have a great time with it, but they define themselves by themselves.”
